A really good zip line experience will always take place in a natural environment. As a result, a successful day soaring through the treetops begins with a little preparation.
Be sure to check out the weather forecast before going out the door. Zip line adventures often go rain or shine and the right clothing can make or break the day. For the most part, weather will only add to the experience so don't worry if it's not a bluebird day!
Following is a list of suggested items to bring:
- Comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather (something you don't mind getting dirty or sweaty). Make sure that the clothing fits well as you will be wearing a harness.
- Sunscreen and lip balm (SPF 15+).
- Insect repellent. You will probably be spending a couple hours in the woods.
- Closed toe shoes. Sport sandals sound great, but there are too many opportunities to stub a toe. Chances are that you will need to walk on uneven ground or climb a net at some point.
- Light rain gear if needed.
- A water bottle. One that can clip on is handy.
- A small camera.
- A small day pack.
Since a good zip line adventure will happen high above the ground, you may be a little apprehensive. That's OK - in fact it's a good thing! You'll be more likely to pay attention to the safety instructions. Even though you will probably be close to a guide throughout the adventure, you will be responsible for using some of the safety equipment yourself.
You will be given a climbing harness to wear throughout your experience. Be sure it is properly adjusted and fits well before you start as you will not be able to take it off once you are up there! The harness is a secure place to clip into while off the ground. Most operators use a two point system so that you are always clipped in, even when transferring from one element to another.
You will probably also be supplied with a helmet. Once again, be sure it fits properly and is comfortable enough to wear for a couple of hours.
If you need gloves, chances are that the operator will supply them. Just to be safe, you may want to ask ahead of time if you need to bring some.
