Bonsai Oak tree is a common sight in the bonsai world. With its ease of maintainability and tolerance to extremes, it is ideal for any beginners trying to experiment with the art of Bonsai.
There are about 400 different species of trees and shrubs in the genus of Quercus which is referred by the name of Oak. It is both a flower as well as a fruit bearing tree, with the fruit being a nut called Acorn. Oaks normally grow on to very old age and some are known to be alive for about 1000 years in the Sherwood forests.
You can propagate your Oak for bonsai by grafting it out of an existing plant, or better still you can air layer it. Carry out the chopping or air layering activity during the spring season. Choose a healthy tree and if you want you can air layer more than one branch at a time.
Place your Bonsai Oak tree either in full sun or partial shade. After repotting the tree avoid placing your tree directly under the sun for about couple of weeks, it is best to place it under the shade of a bigger tree.
Carry out pruning on your oak bonsai tree during the early spring or late winter season. Wire your oak bonsai before the new growth starts to get hard, this will make it easier to give a shape to your oak bonsai tree.
